Tiago Brandao (MSc Psych) originally trained as a Psychologist at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, one of the most renowned universities in his home country, Brazil. During his training he came across the Gestalt Therapy approach which fitted with his own views of human development, relations and psychological healing.
Upon completing his degree in 2004, Tiago decided to move to the UK to deepen his theoretical knowledge in Gestalt and at the same time experience living in a different culture. He now has an MSc in Gesltat Psychotherapy by Metanioa Institute in London and is a registered member of BACP and UKCP. In 2015 Tiago also completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Children and Young People Cognitive Behavior Therapy with IAPT at UCL.
Throughout his psychology/psychotherapy training and professional life he has worked at a wide range of services both in Brazil and in the UK, and have accumulated more than 10 years of practical experience of working with different client groups.
Tiago has developed a particular interest and experience in working with trauma and shame (the innate human feeling of not being “good enough”). He enjoys the creative aspect that the Gestalt approach provides to engage the client’s mind and body in processing those experiences in a more healthy and healing way.
He also Co-ordinates a counselling project for young refugees, asylum seekers and forced migrants in Croydon and provides training to other professionals in a number of topics around mental health.
