Acupuncture and Fertility

If you are trying for a baby you have probably come across reports that acupuncture can help improve your fertility and chances of a successful conception.
Aproximately 1 in 6 couples have difficulty conceiving, around 35 million people in the UK and more people than ever are turning to acupuncture for help. Whether it is support for natural or IVF cycles acupuncture can help.

How can acupuncture help my fertility?

Acupuncture may help

  • Improve embryo quality
  • Regulate hormones and menstrual cycles
  • Reduce side effects of drugs used in IVF
  • Regulate hormones after egg collection during IVF
  • Prevent miscarriage
  • Improve blood flow to the uterus
  • Reduce stress

How many treatments will I need?

Each persons diagnosis is unique so frequency does vary. However, weekly treatment through a woman’s menstrual cycle is a great way to start. If a woman is going to go through IVF, 2 to 3 months before the start is ideal to get the body as strong as possible, giving the best possible chances for a successful outcome.

Can I have acupuncture once I am pregnant?

Whether a positive pregnancy has been achieved naturally or through IVF I always recommend regular treatment in the first 12 weeks. This will help keep the body strong and the mind as relaxed as possible in the first trimester. For more on acupuncture in pregnancy see http://www.hannahpearn.com/acupuncture-pregnancy/
