Targeted acupuncture techniques based on the principles of Western medicine utilised by our practitioners to effectively resolve pain and stiffness.
Medical acupuncture which we practice as musculoskeletal therapists falls under the umbrella of dry needling. This therapy addresses pain, stiffness and muscle spasm via the use of hair thin needles applied to the musculoskeletal system.
We find it extremely effective to release knots in muscles (sometimes termed trigger point acupuncture) and to enhance muscular condition as an adjunct to our manual therapy techniques.
Conditions that would benefit from dry needling include RSI (repetitive strain injury), torticollis, acute sport injuries and acute muscle spasm or chronic fatigue.
Following the birth of my child, I had nerve injury causing a limp and a lot of pain (both mental and physical)! I am not sure I can do justice in written words to the amount of relief Andrea provided me. First, she was able to separate out what was nerve injury (causing the limp) and what was muscle tightness (causing the pain). She did a needling technique on my tight muscles which provided INSTANT relief. It was incredible and I have no idea why this isn’t done in more places. This is not to be confused with acupuncture. She finds the knot in the muscle (sometimes many knots) and places a needle(s) in them. The knot instantly relaxes. It is only a couple seconds that the needle is in your muscle. Doesn’t hurt. And it is incredibly gratifying to have such instant relief of pain and increased mobility. Second, she gave me targeted exercises to do for the nerve injury. She was incredibly knowledgeable about anatomy and the dos/don’t for helping the healing process. Third, she has a compassionate and soothing manner which was just what I needed for my post-partum state. If it matters, I’m a physician. The holistic care Andrea provided was excellent.
